Get Moving with

Pineville Parks & Recreation

Fall is just around the corner and brings a season of cozy sweaters, curling up on the couch and tucking into some favorite comfort foods – but no one wants to gain “The Fall 15”. Lots of people consider a new year (January 1st) to be the perfect time to begin a new workout regime, learn a new skill, or simply start eating better – but we’ll let you in on a little secret: Autumn is an awesome time to rethink your goals and re-calibrate your fitness plan.

Pineville Parks and Recreation offers citizens endless opportunities to achieve your fitness and wellness goals at our indoor/outdoor walking tracks, playgrounds, gym, racquetball court, fitness classes, athletic fields, and more. For more information on our health and fitness opportunities check out our website:  www.townofpineville.gov    or call 704-889-2400.

PPR Health Tip:  Drink at Least Eight Glasses of Water Every Day!! Our bodies are 50 to 60 percent water, and when we are dehydrated, our body and its organs and systems don't function at their optimal level. This limits your ability to exercise intensely and ultimately will affect your ability to burn body fat. Many scientists also suggest that headaches, minor aches and pains, low energy, sleeping problems, and injuries may be a result of dehydration. Eight glasses of water each day will replenish the fluids you lose throughout the day as a result of normal human perspiration.

Discover the Arts through

Pineville Parks and Recreation

ABRAKADOODLE

Join Abrakadoodle – Remarkable Art Education and Travel the World We'll travel the world to find interesting, creative art forms. Our view of the world takes us to ancient Egypt to create an Egyptian mummy and to France to study the artistic style of Pierre Bonnard who creates a warm and tranquil view of the countryside looking out windows. Then we are off to the high seas to create waves and ocean waters in the style of Winslow Homer. We learn about a Portuguese artist's musical inspiration for her abstract art. We have some whimsical fun hearing a poem about a woman who swallowed a fly as we create flies and other 3-D art forms.

Session 1 – Mondays, January 8 – 29th and Session 2 – Mondays, Feb 5 – 26th

Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden

Since the early 1980s, Pearl Fryar has created fantastic topiary at his garden in Bishopville, South Carolina. Living sculptures, Pearl’s topiary are astounding feats of artistry and horticulture. Many of the plants in Pearl’s garden were rescued from the compost pile at local nurseries. With Pearl’s patience and skilled hands, these “throw aways” have thrived and have been transformed into wonderful abstract shapes. Pearl Fryar and his garden are now internationally recognized and have been the subject of numerous newspaper and magazine articles, television shows, and even a documentary, A Man Named Pearl. Today, the Pearl Fryar Topiary Garden draws visitors from around the globe.
