Garbage Collection

As of July 1, 2010, Signature Waste became the town’s sole provider for trash services. Two rollout containers are provided to each resident — one for trash and one for recyclables. Trash pickup is on Wednesdays and Recycle pickup has just been changed (10/4/) to every other Wednesday.g

Here are some things to remember when putting your trash out for pick up:

There are three different types of trucks in town until 5:00 p.m. that pick up regular household trash, the recycling and the yard waste.

Yard Waste: includes brush, tree limbs no bigger than 3 inches in diameter and 3 feet long, and bagged leaves or grass clippings preferably in clear bags. Please limit your piles of tree limbs — if the piles or limbs are too big, they will not be picked up, especially if you contracted with a company to trim your limbs. It is their responsibility to haul it away. Yard waste is picked up each Wednesday, along with regular household trash. The measurements for the maximum amount of yard waste per household per week specified by Signature Waste are 72″L x 40″W x 38″H which is equal to 4 cubic yards. If the amount at the curb exceeds 4 cubic yards Signature Waste will pick up the remainder during the following week’s trash collection.

Recycling: includes glass, newspaper, magazines, broken down cardboard boxes less than 3 ft., plastic and metal cans. And, as of 3/21/14 PIZZA BOXES CAN NOW BE PUT IN WITH YOUR RECYCLING!

NO plastic pots, plastic bags, disposable diapers, Tupperware items or Styrofoam boxes PLEASE! Shredded paper must be bagged in plastic and tied shut BUT is NOT recyclable and must be put in with regular trash. Recycling is picked up every other Wednesday beginning 10/4/17.  For more general information on RECYCLING, please click HERE.

Bulky Items: includes appliances such as refrigerators, stoves, washing machines, furniture, mattresses, etc. Any item(s) that are not inside the garbage/rollout cart must be scheduled for pickup. Call Signature Waste at 704-714-9400 to schedule a pickup.

Household hazardous waste (HHW): such as tires, oil, paint cans, batteries and empty propane tanks from gas grills can be dropped off at the Foxhole Recycling Center located at 17131 Lancaster Hwy., 704-341-4962.

Construction/Demolition/Remodeling debris: including roofing, masonry, flooring and lumber must be removed by contractor. Absolutely no construction debris will be picked up.

Please keep in mind that Signature Waste services other towns with regularly scheduled pickups and cannot always come back immediately to get missed trash but they will be back to pick it up once it is reported.
