Park Aide

We have a wonderful opportunity here at the Town for a Part-Time Park Aide in our Parks and Recreation Department . The ideal candidate will be responsible for the day to day cleanliness and trash removal at the Recreation Center and Park facilities, which includes trash removal from recreation center and parks, removing visible trash from all park areas, blowing, minor landscaping, general cleaning which includes sweeping, mopping, clean and stock recreation and park bathrooms, clean and stock dog pots, gym/weight room cleanliness and maintains cleanliness of all other necessary items.

Regularly patrol park area to prevent vandalism and/or theft and cautions visitors against infractions of rules that may warrant notification to supervisor and/or police

Provide information on the park use, regulations, safety requirements or points of interest to park patrons

Responds to complaints and directs them to the appropriate staff

Greet and assist visitors as needed

Greet shelter rentals, offer assistance and ensure that they abide by contracted scheduled times

The position requires both an evening and weekend work schedule.

Candidate must be customer service and detailed oriented.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Ability to operate computer. Able to effectively communicate both orally and written. Knowledge of park equipment usage, general ground and recreation center maintenance and points of interest in the area recommended; ability to deal tactfully with the public and maintain composure in stressful situations; ability to establish effective working relationships with co-workers and supervisors; ability to direct traffic and operate a motor vehicle.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must be at least 16 years of age with a full provisional license.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Full provisional North Carolina or South Carolina’s driver’s license and be able to maintain a safe driving record

Must obtain if do not currently possess a First Aid and CPR Certification within six months of employment

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Must be able to perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing and repetitive motions

Must be able to perform light work exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects

Must be able to work in environmental conditions that require both inside and outside work

Parks Maintenance Technician

Provides high quality grounds and landscaping maintenance, upkeep of all fields and keep them in immaculate condition.  The Parks Maintenance Supervisor will direct the work of the Parks Maintenance Technician.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Responsible for overall maintenance and upkeep of the parks and grounds

Maintains turf area; mows, aerates, fertilizes, seeds, removes weeds, re-sods and edges using equipment and tools such as mowers, weed eaters, blowers and various hand tools

Plants and prunes trees, shrubs, ground cover and flowers

Diagnoses turf and plant problems and implements control procedures

Prepares and applies pesticides, fertilizers and soil amendments using tools such as sprayers and spreaders and maintain thorough records

Drag and line ball fields according to the appropriate sport’s regulations prior to and between games as necessary

Inspects park, playgrounds and recreation areas for hazardous and/or unsafe conditions and make necessary repairs or modifications

Diagnose and perform light mechanical service on all equipment and report mechanical problems to supervisor

Cleans and stocks restrooms and provides maintenance and repairs for the facilities

Repairs and adjusts irrigation systems.

Provides assistance to the Athletic Coordinator on the day of event with any request regarding maintenance of the facility

Must coordinate efforts and establish good working relationship with Crew Leader, upper management and Parks and Recreation staff

Must be able to work a flexible work schedule that includes nights, weekends and holidays

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must have a High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent and have 1-2 years of parks maintenance, landscaping or prior turf/golf course experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must have either a valid North Carolina or South Carolina’s driver’s license and be able to maintain a safe driving record

Must obtain ornamental and turf pesticide license within 6 months of employment

Must keep all pesticide and other licenses up to date as required for the position

Systems Technician (Cable Installer)

SOME ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS 

Troubleshoots and repairs residential and business telephone system lines and equipment

  • Operates test equipment to isolate problems
  • Splices cable
  • Repairs cable pairs, jacks, lines and pay telephones
  • Collect funds from pay telephones

Installs new residential and business telephone service

  • Pulls new cable into businesses by means of conduit or other methods
  • Installs new cable pairs and jacks
  • Assembles, programs and installs business key systems as well as trains customers in their use
  • Makes programming changes to update service

Perform telephone work orders including installing service lines, jacks, phones and other equipment

Installs and maintains data circuit

Installs and maintains fiber optic lines, IP networks

Installs inside/outside plant fiber optic and copper networks

Validates and tests end to end service provisioning for outside plant fiber/copper networks

Responsible for new construction, operation and maintenance of buried/aerial cable

Serves as a company representative when interacting with internal and external customers

Periodic on-call duties for after hour emergencies

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of telephone, internet and cable, construction, digital and computer equipment; thorough knowledge of the policies and procedures governing telephone, and internet; considerable knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions as required for best practices; considerable knowledge as related to both hardware and software related to electrical equipment; systems and related equipment; ability to troubleshoot complex issues and resolve technical issues; ability to document and communicate progress and completion of work orders and requests; ability to maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, management, public officials, vendors and customers

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Must have a High School Diploma and technical experience and/or education in the telecommunications system industry with experience in the following areas; telephone, internet, and cable field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Must have either a valid North Carolina or South Carolina Commercial Driver’s license and able to maintain a safe driving record

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs responsible police work in the protection of life and property through the enforcement of laws and ordinances. Positions involve patrolling of assigned areas, accident and crime scene investigations, collection and preservation of physical evidence, follow-up investigations and special assignments for the purpose of the prevention of crime, apprehension of offenders and enforcement of laws and ordinances. Police officer must be able to act without the direct supervision using independent judgment and discretion in meeting emergency and non-emergency situations. Duties are performed in accordance with law and departmental directives. Work involves extensive public contacts and situations of personal danger. Work is performed under the regular supervision of a Sergeant

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Knowledge or the ability to acquire during reasonable period of training, knowledge of modern police practices and methods, applicable federal, state and local laws and ordinances, particularly the laws of arrest, search investigation; knowledge of the geography of the Town of Pineville, to include transportation routes, major buildings and residential areas; rules and directions of the Police Department and reporting procedures; ability to deal firmly and courteously with the public; ability to analyze situations quickly and objectively and to determine proper course of action to be taken; ability to react quickly and calmly during emergency situations; ability to obtain information through interviews and interrogation; ability to write and speak effectively; trainable in the use and care of firearms within a reasonable period of time; ability to exercise good judgment and emotional maturity under stressful conditions; ability to recognize potentially dangerous situations; ability to work long hours on rotating shifts with occasional overtime as required; ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.

Benefits Snapshot

The Town of Pineville offers a comprehensive benefits package which includes paid Medical, Dental and Vision coverage, a Health Reimbursement Arrangement, as well as an Employee Assistance Program. These are provided at no cost to the employee with an option to purchase additional insurance for dependents. Additionally, we offer life insurance, short-term and long-term disability, Flexible Spending Accounts and an array of Supplemental Insurances.

The Town of Pineville is part of the North Carolina Retirement System and as a condition of employment, 6% of every employee’s salary is deducted from their paychecks for the retirement fund. This is a defined benefit plan and an employee’s retirement is based upon years of credited service.  An employee is fully vested after five years of credited service.

We also offer a voluntary 401(k), defined contribution plan, with the Town matching up to 5% of an employee’s contribution.  Sworn law enforcement personnel will automatically receive a 5% match regardless of their own contributions. Once enrolled, an employee is vested immediately.
